Meet Chuckie and Pie

Hello and welcome to my blog about fostering 2 cockatiels named Chuckie and Pie. They are brother and sister and have been together their entire lives so will need to be adopted together. Chuckie, on the left is the male and Pie, right, is the female.
Both birds came to me about a week or so ago and came from a the home of a former breeder and while they were probably loved they probably didn't receive the best care. They were on a primarily seed diet and were not caged properly. Both birds have had a section of their right wing either amputated or severely damaged so sadly neither will ever be able to fly. Pie suffers from over preening from Chuckie and her much of her head is devoid of feathers. Both suffer from perching problems which may be the result of a bad diet so hopefully better foods will allow these guys to get a little better.
My primary goal for these fosters is get them a little healthier and eating better food. They do seem to be trying some of the greens and pellets so hopefully I will be able to ween them off of seeds pretty quickly. I am supplementing some vitamins with Red Palm oil, ( Thanks Laura!) and I am going to try some Tops pellets to get some alfalfa in them for calcium.
Honestly when these guys arrived at my house I was quite concerned for their health, I didn't think Pie would make it through the night she looked in such bad shape. But the very next day both birds picked up and showm some improvement every day. Hopefully we can rehab these guys enough to find a forever home!
