Incredible Adoption Story!

This is really an incredible and heart warming adoption story. First a little back story. Chuckie and Pie have spent the last 4 or so months with me having come from an elderly woman who could no longer care for them. There were 5 birds in the group and I had room so I took Chuckie and Pie. We got them to vet and learned that they were relatively healthy but their wings had been damaged and they would never fly again. I transitioned them to a healthy diet of pellets and chop and saw their health improve quickly. Because of Pie's bald head and general appearance I honestly didn't have a whole lot of faith that they would ever be adopted. i had resigned myself to the thought that Chuckie and Pie were with me for the long haul. Not that it was a bad thing, they sing very nicely and aren't loud, so I was OK with that.
Fast forward a few months till last weekend at Pet Expo. One of the members told me a wonderful tale. It seems that Chuckie and Pies's original owners had seen them on Petfinder and had contacted PEARL.  20 or so years ago this person, Kylie, had been just a child when she chose Pi (her real name)

to be her pet. Her family had another Cockatiel Chuckie and also an African Grey parrot. Then when she was 12 her grandmother fell ill and had to move into the family home. They needed space and had to give up all the birds but the Grey. Here are some pictures form that time:

Kylie saw Chuckie and Pi on Petfinder and wanted to adopt them back into her home. She was upset when she saw Pi. She wasn't the same pretty outgoing bird she once was. She needed to take our adoption class, which is a requirement for adopting from PEARL. She took the class today and after 20 years Chuckie and Pi returned home today.

I can't even begin to explain how happy I am for these 2 birds and Kylie. as you can see from the pictures the birds seem right at home with their adoptive family and they are back where they belong. Do they recognize her after 20 years? I don't know for sure, but in my mind they do. They see 12 year old Kylie and remember all the love they shared.
